At the San Bao clinic, I specialise in Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Cupping, and Dietary Therapy.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is only one of the available therapies in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It involves the insertion of hair thin needles into specific points all over the body, which can be understood as “gates” to direct and harmonise the Qi of the whole body. When Qi and Blood flow smoothly in all of their pathways throughout the body, there is no illness.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion is another therapy within the Traditional Chinese Medical system. It involves the use of a dried and finely grounded slow burning herb called Moxa (a Chinese variety of Mugwort).
Moxa is a medium capable of heating Acupuncture Points, as well as providing heat to wider parts of the body. Moxa has the unusual ability to send heat down when lit up. It is used in the form of small cones, sticks, or loose in Moxa boxes.
Cupping
With the Cupping therapy, practitioners traditionally use bamboo cups which are emptied from their air (by lighting a flame inside them) before being applied to a precise location on the body. This creates a suction in that area. It is well acknowledged for being extremely efficient in relieving muscle pain, tightness, and accelerating recovery of injuries by drawing blood to the affected area. However this therapy is – as are all therapies within TCM – able to restore health on every levels.
Dietary therapy
“Food is the first medicine”. As true as an incorrect diet can be the main cause for a person’s health to degrade, a correct food and drink intake can not only promote good health on the long term, but it is also very potent in restoring health in the ill person. Furthermore, it is a therapy which enables the person to be in control of their recovery. Dietary advice can supplement the other therapies.
